Founder of Nuthatch Consultants, and operating as a suicide prevention freelance consultant, Neil Peters is an accomplished programme and project manager, with a 20-year career spanning the commercial and charity sector.

Identifying the workforce across Sussex exposed to suicidal people or suicide content and making recommendations for their wellbeing needs.
Some earlier projects that Neil managed with Nuthatch included programme managing the launch of the National Suicide Prevention Alliance’s lived experience network, writing a suicide prevention strategy for a major property firm and working with Samaritans to review Highways England’s suicide prevention strategy.
Prior to setting up Nuthatch, Neil led the award-winning suicide prevention on the railway programme for Samaritans in partnership with Network Rail, and he is an expert in suicide prevention, mental health and wellbeing. Neil has delivered major award winning suicide prevention campaigns Real People Real Stories and Small Talk Saves Lives, and led Samaritans’ award winning training team delivering suicide prevention and trauma support training. Neil has also written the rail industry guide for suicide prevention in community outreach.
Neil is on the Suicide Prevention and Self Harm Panel for R;pple Suicide Prevention‘s Advisory Board.
Neil launched Nuthatch Retreats, a side project to support people’s wellbeing by connecting them with nature.
Katie Barton
Katie joined Nuthatch on a freelance basis in 2022 in addition to working part-time leading the Community Rehabilitation Team in Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust.
She brings 10 years of experience of delivering creative programmes and projects that are co-designed with a diverse range of people and organisations across third and statutory sectors with a focus on suicide prevention and mental health . She’s skilled at bringing people together, listening to feedback, ensuring that everyone’s voice is heard and securing community buy in.
Her Community Rehabilitation team provide a high-quality specialist and intensive rehabilitation service that supports the recovery of adults with psychosis and other mental health conditions.
Recent successes include facilitating a local Carers Support Group and supporting the development of a Recovery Through Activities programme – in addition to managing a busy multi-disciplinary team of professionals, enabling them to provide the best quality support to the people that the team services.
Prior to this she led an innovative pilot to champion voluntary and community sector (VCS) and resident involvement in the Neighbourhoods Programme – part of City and Hackney Integrated Care System. This successful pilot delivered two community partnerships led by local residents and VCS organisations, capable of transforming and redesigning local health and care services for local people collaborating with statutory partners.
Katie has experience of writing successful business cases and proposals and securing recurrent and matched funding.
She has been working with Nuthatch to deliver a major scoping project for a community mental health legacy programme on behalf of Bessels Green Baptist Church near Sevenoaks, Kent.
